What if I need to extend my child’s day?
Appletree has hourly care available for those students that attend the 9:00am-12:00pm hours or the 9:00am-3:00pm hours. Each additional hour that you need care for is billed at a rate of $5.00/hour. We cannot open any earlier that 7:00am or close any later than 6:00pm.

Do you have a late fee?
Appletree understands that occasionally a parent may run late. We allow 3 late pick-ups before we begin to charge a late fee. For every 15 minute increment, or part thereof, there will be a $15.00 late fee assessed.

Do you have transportation?
Appletree does not have transportation to and from the school. We do own our own bus which is sometimes used for field trips.

What if my child does not want to participate in a field trip experience?
If there is a reason why you do not want your child to participate in a field trip, you have the option of bringing them to the library where they can work on classroom assignments left for them or read a book. You may also keep them with you and bring them to school once the trip has returned to Appletree.

Do you close for snow days when Fairfax County schools close?
We close when the Federal Government closes. Appletree does everything within reason to open. We may have a delayed opening or an early closing but we do our best to get open! The day is considered non-academic if Fairfax County schools close.

May I bring my child if they are sick?
We require all children to be picked up from Appletree within an hour if they:
- Have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher
- Have diarrhea
- Have vomited
We ask that all children remain at home until the symptoms have cleared for 24 hours or until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

Will my child have substitute teachers?
Yes, Appletree follows Fairfax County substitute teacher requirements. There is the possibility that your child’s teacher will need to be out due to sickness or vacation days.

Do you watch videos?
Appletree does watch videos for both educational purposes and entertainment. The teachers choose shows that reinforce what is being taught in their classrooms. The afternoon staff may chose to watch a video that is for entertainment only. There is a one hour limit in the preschool per week and only G movies are shown. Once in the Academy there is an hour and a half limit and G movies are shown with a permission slip sent home for PG movies. PG-13 movies are never shown. If a movie is being shown after the academic day is over, there is always an alternative activity given to the students.

What qualifications do the after school assistants possess?
Our after-school assistants must be at least 16 years old. They must be 18 years old to be responsible for a group of children by themselves. As with all Appletree employees, afternoon assistants also have background checks conducted on them.

Do students wear uniforms?
No, Appletree only requires that clothing be in good taste and proper footwear be worn for safety reasons.

Is Appletree affiliated with any religious organization?
We are not affiliated with any one church, but we are a Christian-based school with a strong character education program. The children do say a morning prayer and we say grace before we eat.

Do you supply sunscreen and bug spray?
Appletree does not supply sunscreen or bug spray but we will apply it to preschool children. We will watch Academy children apply it to themselves. All bottles need to be labeled with your child’s name and given to the teacher. Please do not leave in their cubbies.
